Gideon Crevoshay and Devin Greenwood - SUPERSTRUCTURES: NINE SENSE VARIATIONS FOR VOICE AND A-100

Mixed in residency at Black Hole by the artists these nine movements were developed over two years by Gideon Crevoshay and Devin Greenwood. The work is what the two call "rational" music, which refers to the pure ratio-relationships between pitches that are produced by Crevoshay's free vocal technique. Explorations of overtonal sensation are generatively performed and structured over a cardinal timeframe (each movement is the same duration, 6 minutes). As a result, ever-shifting harmonic cadences, tonal centers and dynamic levels induce the "orchestra of overtones", evolving to the tempo of the breath continually for 54 minutes. Superstructures by its ephemerality challenges entrenched ways of thinking and invites the listener to slow down and consider their bodily engagement with sound, space and their individual perceptions.Black Hole でのレジデンシー中にアーティスト自身がミックスしたこの9つの楽章は、ギデオン・クレヴォシェイとデヴィン・グリーンウッドが2年をかけて展開したものである。二人が「有理的（rational）」音楽と呼ぶこの作品は、クレヴォシェイの自由な発声技法によって生み出される音高間の純粋な比の関係を指している。倍音的な感覚の探究が、基数的な時間枠のうえで生成的に演奏され構造化される（各楽章は同じ長さの6分）。その結果、たえず移り変わる和声的カデンツ、調的中心、強弱のレベルが「倍音のオーケストラ」を呼び起こし、54分にわたって呼吸のテンポで展開しつづける。Superstructures はその儚さによって、凝り固まった聴き方に問いを投げかける。
