Kristallgatsch / Strahlung Commissioned by EMPAC Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute / Troy / NY 32 channels / 2009 - 2010 / ~28' For his entrancing composition 'Kristallgatsch / Strahlung', a commission by the EMPAC Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy (NY), Volkmar Klien places his audiences in the very center of a sounding body's physical model. Here he invites them to (voluntarily, unquestioningly, blissfully) synchronize themselves to all the pleasures presented in super-surround. This virtual, enveloping object continuously changes its shape and - as it resonates - opens wide spectral spaces and views of scenery in acoustically transparent layers.
